DIY hire and drive vs digger with driver?

It is usually more cost-effective to hire an experienced and skilled digger driver who can achieve a considerable amount of work in one day, with better results. 

Someone hiring a digger without any experience or training might not succeed in completing the job satisfactorily and safely - and could cause a lot of damage! Beware of underground gas/water pipes and electricity cables!
